Fence Repair in Sarasota & Manatee County, FL
We repair vinyl, wood, aluminum and chain-link fences and gates across Sarasota and Manatee County — leaning posts, storm damage, and gates that won’t latch, no matter who installed them.
What we fix, material by material
Most repair calls aren’t about a whole fence. They’re about one corner that went over in a squall, a gate nobody can close, or boards gone soft where the sprinkler hits every morning.
Vinyl fence repair
Cracked or blown-out panels, rails popped out of their post pockets, and posts leaning after the soil washed out. A damaged section can often be replaced without touching the rest of the line. Matching is the catch: older vinyl weathers in Florida sun and some styles are discontinued, so we confirm a match before we order. More on vinyl fencing.
Wood fence repair
Wood here fails from the bottom up: pickets rot at the grade line, posts go soft at ground level, and rails sag once fasteners rust. We replace rotted pickets and posts, re-hang rails, and tighten loose boards. If most posts are soft, we’ll say so rather than patch boards onto them. See wood fencing.
Aluminum fence repair
Bent pickets and rails from limbs or mowers, loose brackets, and posts knocked out of plumb. On pool fences the gate matters most: Florida’s pool barrier rules expect pool gates to self-close and self-latch, so a worn hinge or a latch that won’t catch is more than cosmetic (basics in our permits guide). See aluminum fencing.
Chain-link fence repair
Bent top rail, torn fabric, broken tension bands and loose terminal posts. Damaged fabric and rail can usually be spliced or replaced in place, on residential, commercial and tennis court runs. See chain-link fencing.
Gate repair: walk gates, drive gates and automatic gates
A sagging gate is usually a leaning hinge post, a loose frame or tired hinges rather than a bad gate, and we fix the cause, not just the latch. We also repair automatic gates and their operators — tell us the operator brand and what it’s doing (won’t open, stops halfway, drags) when you call.
Post repair: where most problems start
A leaning fence is almost always a post problem: rot at ground level, an undersized footing, or soil that shifted after heavy rain. We reset the post plumb in new concrete, replace it, or add one where the span is too long.
Storm and hurricane damage repair
After a named storm or a summer squall line, the pattern repeats: solid privacy panels catch the wind, shallow footings let go first, and falling limbs do the rest. After storms we schedule repairs ahead of new installs when we can.
If your fence is down:
- Stay clear of downed lines and anything tangled in them. Call the utility first.
- Take photos before cleanup (wide shots and close-ups) in case you’re filing an insurance claim.
- Secure the pool. A gap in a pool barrier is the one problem that shouldn’t wait.
- Send us the photos at office@costakey.com. We’ll sort out what can be stood back up, what needs new posts, and what needs replacing.
We look at why it failed, not only what fell. Sometimes that means deeper footings or tighter post spacing on the exposed side of the yard. See our wind-resistant fencing guide.

Repair or replace?
We’d rather fix the 30 feet that failed than sell you 200 feet you don’t need. Here’s the honest rule of thumb.
Repair usually makes sense when:
- The damage is limited to a few panels, pickets, a gate or a handful of posts
- The rest of the posts are solid and plumb
- Matching parts are available (or a mismatched section won’t bother you or your HOA)
Replacement starts to win when:
- Posts are failing up and down the line, not just in one spot
- Wood is soft across most of the fence, or metal is rusted through
- You’re repairing the same fence every season
- You were planning a material or height change anyway
Angi’s 2026 guidance agrees: widespread rot, severe leaning or rust, or a fence older than about 15 years often makes replacement the better buy. If it’s worth comparing, we’ll quote both.
What does fence repair cost?
It depends on the material, how much is damaged, and whether posts are involved, so we price after seeing the fence or photos. For budgeting, here’s national data from Angi’s 2026 fence repair cost guide. These are national averages, not a Costa Key quote:
| Repair (national, Angi 2026) | Typical range |

| Average fence repair project | $618 average; most pay $304–$948 |
| Leaning fence | $200–$400 |

Fence Repair FAQ
How much does fence repair cost?
Nationally, Angi’s 2026 data puts the average fence repair at $618, with most homeowners paying $304 to $948. Gate repairs run about $100 to $400 and leaning-fence repairs about $200 to $400. Those are national averages, not a Costa Key quote. We price your repair after seeing the fence or photos, and the estimate is free.
Can a handyman repair a fence, or should I call a fence company?
A handyman can usually swap a loose picket. Call a fence company when posts are leaning or rotted, a pool gate won’t self-close and latch, vinyl or aluminum parts need matching, or storm damage covers more than a section.
Do you repair fences Costa Key didn’t install?
Yes. We repair fences and gates no matter who installed them — vinyl, wood, aluminum and chain link. We’ll look at the posts and parts first and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense.
Who is responsible for fence repair between neighbors?
Generally it comes down to who owns the fence, and a survey settles where the line is. HOA documents can add rules. When neighbors split a repair, we can provide one written estimate you both review.
Can a leaning fence be fixed without replacing it?
Usually, yes, if the lean comes from a few posts. We reset them plumb in new concrete or replace rotted ones, then re-hang the panels. If most posts are failing, we’ll tell you replacement is the better spend.
Is it better to repair or replace a fence?
Repair when damage is limited to a few sections or a gate and the remaining posts are solid. Consider replacement when posts fail throughout, rot or rust is widespread, or the fence is roughly 15+ years old.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval to repair a fence in Sarasota or Manatee County?
It depends on scope and location. Replacing long runs or changing height, material or location is more likely to need review than swapping a panel, and HOAs may require approval for visible changes. We confirm on your estimate.
Can you repair hurricane or storm damage to my fence?
Yes. We reset or replace storm-damaged posts, panels and gates across Sarasota and Manatee County, and after storms we schedule repairs ahead of new installs when we can. Photograph the damage before cleanup if you plan an insurance claim, secure any pool barrier gap, then call (941) 962-4898.
